THE song that I came to sing remains
unsung to this day.

I have spent my days in stringing
and in unstringing my instrument.

The time has not come true, the
words have not been rightly set ; only
there is the agony of wishing in my
heart.

The blossom has not opened ; only
the wind is sighing by.

I have not seen his face, nor have I
listened to his voice ; only I have heard
his gentle footsteps from the road before
my house.

The livelong day has passed in spread-
ing his seat on the floor ; but the lamp
has not been lit and I cannot ask him
into my house.

I live in the hope of meeting with
him ; but this meeting is not yet.

ఇచ్చటికి నేవి పాడఁగ వచ్చినాఁడ
పాటలవి నేటి వరకును పాడ నైతి ||

స్వరములు కుదిర్చి, సారెలు చక్కపరచు
పాటులే పడుచుంటి నీ నాటి దాక
గానపుం గోర్కియా మదిలోనె నిల్చె ||

సమత సమకూడలేదు నా స్వరములందు
పాట కట్టవు నా తొట్రుపడి పదాలు!
ప్రాణములలోన మాత్రము పాడుకొనెడి
యారటము నిండియుండె నిరంతరముగ ||

ఇప్పటికి నేని పువ్వది విప్ప లేదు
కాని యిందాక నయ్యొ కేగాలి వీచు ||

అతని మో మేను చూడలే, దతని నోటి
పలుకు వినలేదు కాని కేవలము వాని
మృదుపదధ్వని విందు ప్రతిక్షణమ్ము,
ఎపుడు మా యింటి వాకిలి యెదుటినుండి
పుటపుటన వచ్చుచుండును పోవుచుండు ||

అతనికై యాసనమ్ముంచు జతనమందె
కడచిపోయెను పగలింటి కాలమెల్ల,
*ఇంటిలో దీపమేని వెల్గించ నైతి
నిప్పు డాతని మాయింటి కెట్లు పిలుతు? ||

ఆస గొనియుంటిఁ గలయిక యౌనటంచు
      కాని తా నింతవరకు నన్ గలియఁ డయ్యె ||
